Same generic tablets, your own doctor’s prescription, a cash-price pharmacy: $5.83 for 30.

The questionnaire is free, the clinician's review is folded into the price, and the medicine is where you pay. We read the pages and terms of five online hair-loss services so you can compare the paperwork before you hand over a card.

Scriptside compares online hair-loss services: Hims, Keeps, Ro, Happy Head and Strut Health. Each one sells the same idea in three steps, and each step has a price you can find if you know where to look.

Three steps, three prices

The first step is the questionnaire, usually with photos of your scalp. Hims, Keeps and Ro list the visit as free, Happy Head's FAQ calls its consultations free, and Strut Health says its visit is typically complimentary. You pay nothing until a clinician approves something.

The second step is the review by a licensed clinician: a doctor or nurse practitioner at Ro, US-licensed physicians at Strut Health, board-certified dermatologists at Happy Head by its own account, and licensed providers at Hims and Keeps. Their time is folded into the plan price, along with follow-up messaging.

The third step is delivery, and that is where the money goes. Generic finasteride was listed at $20 to $26.67 a month at the four services that publish a price, on 22 September 2026. The same generic tablets, on a prescription from your own doctor, were listed at $5.83 for 30 at a cash-price pharmacy, before shipping.

How we judge a service

We score each service out of 100 on five things you can check before paying: how clearly it states the price and billing interval, who reviews you and how you reach them afterwards, how you cancel, whether compounded products are labelled, and whether you can use your own pharmacy. The full scoring is on our online hair-loss services compared page.

The score is about the paperwork, never about whether a medicine works on your hair. That is a question for the evidence and a prescriber, and a questionnaire is not an examination.

What we won't do

We don't sell or recommend a drug, show results photos, quote patients, or tell you what to take. We don't link to a service because it pays: the service we score highest, Ro, has no link from us and pays us nothing. And where the cheapest answer is your own doctor and a pharmacy, we say so first, because it is.

Asked before signing up

Can you get hair-loss treatment online?
Yes. Services such as Hims, Keeps, Ro, Happy Head and Strut Health have licensed clinicians review a questionnaire, usually with scalp photos, and prescribe if it is appropriate; a pharmacy then posts the medicine on a subscription. An online review is not an examination, so sudden or patchy hair loss should be seen in person first.
How much does online hair-loss treatment cost?
The visit is listed as free or typically complimentary at the services we compare, and you pay for the medicine. Generic finasteride was listed at $20 to $26.67 a month at the four services that publish a price when we checked on 22 September 2026; custom compounded formulas at Happy Head were $59 to $119 a month.
What is the cheapest way to get finasteride?
Usually a prescription from your own doctor filled at a cash-price pharmacy: Cost Plus Drug Company listed 30 generic tablets at $5.83 before shipping. That route pays us nothing. Among online services, Ro's $16 a month on a twelve-month plan was the lowest listed price.
Are the sprays and chews sold online FDA-approved?
Many are not. Multi-ingredient sprays, serums, gels and chews are often compounded, which means a pharmacy mixes them and the FDA has not reviewed them. In April 2025 the FDA cautioned specifically about compounded topical finasteride sold through telehealth.
Does Scriptside get paid by these services?
Some of them, through marked partner links, and never in a way that moves a score. The service we score highest, Ro, has no link from us and pays us nothing. Our affiliate disclosure lists every programme and the offers we refuse.
