Ro Hair Loss Review: The Clearest Price List

Ro publishes every hair-loss price per month at three plan lengths and lets you use your own pharmacy. Why it scores highest here, and why we don't link to it.

Published Sep 16, 2026Prices and terms checked Sep 22, 2026

Ro is an online health service that treats hair loss through a free online visit with a doctor or nurse practitioner, then ships generic finasteride, minoxidil or its compounded Mane Spray in quarterly shipments. Of the five services we compare, it publishes the clearest prices and the most useful terms, which is why it scores highest here.

We have no affiliate link to Ro, so nothing on this page earns us money. We read Ro's pricing page, hair-loss pages, FAQ and terms of use on 22 September 2026, and we did not sign up.

What Ro charges for hair loss

Ro's pricing page lists four hair-loss treatments for men, each priced per month. The table repeats them as printed; Ro sells hair-loss treatment in quarterly shipments only, and says why: treatment takes at least three months to have an effect, running out interrupts it, and shipping quarterly lowers the cost.

Topical minoxidil (generic Rogaine)$16$14$13
Oral minoxidil (generic Loniten)$30$27$24
Ro Mane Spray (compounded)$50$43Not offered

Ro's hair-loss FAQ adds per-day figures for the quarterly plan: $0.67 a day for finasteride, $0.53 for minoxidil and $1.17 for both together. Ro prices its oral minoxidil with the notes that it carries a boxed warning, needs a prescription and is off-label for hair loss; that makes it a prescriber's decision, not a line on a menu.

How the Ro visit works

The Ro visit is an online questionnaire about your symptoms, medical history and basics, plus a few photos of your hair; the FAQ says the photos help your doctor or nurse practitioner choose the treatment. The visit is free, and you are charged only once a clinician has approved a personalised plan.

After that, Ro says follow-ups are free and unlimited through secure messaging, and adds a line most services leave out: you should keep seeing a doctor in person as well. That advice is right, because a questionnaire and photos cannot examine your scalp. If your hair is falling out in patches or suddenly, see a doctor before any online service; what an online hair-loss consult asks you explains why.

What Ro's terms say

Ro's terms of use, last revised on 2 April 2026, contain the clause that most sets it apart for hair loss: if you receive a prescription, you may have it filled by Ro's pharmacy network or by the pharmacy of your choice. That lets you use Ro for the prescription and a cheaper pharmacy for the tablets, if the numbers suit you; ask Ro first whether anything changes when you do.

The terms also say Ro and its affiliated practices do not accept insurance, that you are refunded automatically if you are judged unsuitable or your request expires, and that other charges are not refundable. You can cancel a subscription before the cutoff date shown when you buy, and Ro's arbitration clause includes a written opt-out. We take points off for the cutoff not being published in advance; our guide to cancelling a hair-loss subscription covers the practicalities.

Ro Mane Spray and compounding

Ro Mane Spray is a compounded topical that Ro says combines finasteride, minoxidil and tretinoin, and Ro prints "Compounded medication. Not FDA-approved." beside its price. That labelling is exactly what we want to see, and it is part of why Ro scores 14 of 15 on compounding labels.

The spray still carries the FDA's April 2025 caution about compounded topical finasteride, which reported adverse events that in most cases persisted after people stopped. Ask the clinician about that before choosing the spray over tablets; our explainer on topical finasteride through telehealth sets out what the FDA said.

Where Ro's own pages disagree

Ro's hair-loss FAQ says there is one prescription-strength hair-loss medication on its platform, finasteride, and describes its minoxidil as a 5% solution you can buy without a visit. Its pricing page, read the same day, lists oral minoxidil and Mane Spray as prescription options too. The pricing page is the more recent-looking of the two, and we have used it; if you are deciding, check the product page at checkout.

This is a small thing, but it is the kind of thing our score is built to catch, and it is one reason Ro is not higher.

Who Ro suits, and who it doesn't

Ro suits a man with ordinary pattern thinning who wants a generic prescription online at a price he can see before starting, and who may want to fill that prescription at his own pharmacy later. The published per-month prices at three plan lengths make it easy to work out what a year costs, and quarterly shipping means you are never paying for more than three months of tablets at a time on the shortest plan.

It suits less well anyone who would rather not upload photos of their head, since the visit asks for them. It is not for women seeking finasteride, whose label is for men only; Ro lists separate women's hair-loss plans, which are outside this guide. And like every service here, it is not the place to start if your hair loss is sudden, patchy or painful: that needs a doctor who can examine you.

Affiliate directories list a programme for Ro, but we have not confirmed its terms at source, so we have no link to Ro and earn nothing if you use it. It is the highest-scoring service on our comparison of online hair-loss services anyway, at 85 out of 100: 28 for price clarity, 16 for clinician access, 13 for exit terms, 14 for compounding labels and 14 for pharmacy choice.

If we ever add a link, the disclosure page will say so first, and the score will not change because of it. For the price of the same tablets through every route, see what finasteride costs.
